Acupuncture in Bloomington
In use for more than 2,500 years, acupuncture is a technique Dr. Peffer uses by inserting fine needles into your skin at specific points to alleviate back, neck and joint pain, as well as the symptoms of other conditions. It is beneficial for everyone, however, including those in chiropractic treatment.
It complements chiropractic at Optimal Wellness Center by positively affecting the nervous system and your other body tissues. Acupuncture is thought to stimulate the release of helpful body chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain.
In turn, patients find their mental and physical well-being improve during treatment.
Who Can Benefit?
Acupuncture is truly for anyone willing to add additional benefits to their chiropractic care, as the two therapies greatly complement each other. From those suffering from lower back pain to chronic headache sufferers and even those of us who suffer from frequent colds, the treatment can do wonders to alleviate the symptoms we may feel.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
After meeting with Dr. Peffer during your first appointment, he will conduct an exam to understand better where your body needs focus during the treatment. From there, he will begin to place the needles in the necessary meridian paths.
This is not like getting an injection (e.g. a vaccination). The needles he uses are medical grade and very fine in size. Many patients do not even feel the needles as they’re inserted. Each session lasts about 15 minutes, and you can relax and let your mind wander as Dr. Peffer works his magic.
There’s Nothing to Fear
We understand some patients may feel apprehensive before their first few appointments if they have a fear of needles.
Our priority is ensuring your comfort level. We will be in constant communication if you need extra time to adjust to the placement of the needles and the progression of the appointment if you are nervous. You’re in control!
